Who is Alan Beattie?

I am a proactive and hands-on experienced IT Professional with a proven strategic, architectural, management, training and development track record.

After leaving college in June 1985 with a degree in Communications and Electronic Engineering I started work with the Applications group at Marconi Instruments ATE division. This involved deleopng custom test equipment and programs for both functional and in-circuit test of electronic circuit boards. During this time I managed my projects, which ranged in value from afew thousand pounds, to much greater sums.

After moving onto Digital Equipment Corporation in 1993 as a test engineer I was involved in the introduction of mass produced PC motherboards. Having realised this was the future I have concentrated on PCs ever since, in both support and training. I have also expanded into Web Design and Development, including introducing this topic into one college.

I have been professionally teaching and training since 1996 and has great experience of teaching Microsoft applications, networking, hardware, and a variety of Computing and IT topics. I have continued with that in Further Educationas a lecturer, taking on some organisational role as I moved upwards to a Senior Lecturer.

Realising that the academic world can be isolated and not always in line with current developments and practices I have maintained my practical by undertaking some freelance work in the field of web development and support.
